Painting II

Here is my first painting for my Painting 2 course. The instruction was to pick an artist's style that you admire and try to immulate there particular nuances of brush strokes, color application, etc.....i picked Immpressionist Paul Cezanne, friend of other impressionists of that era Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Auguste Renoir, Eduard Manet.....

Ceramics

Here are a couple of my ceramic pieces that i completed spring semester 07. it was definitely a challenging yet rewarding experience. many things can go wrong when working with clay. the one on the right is an incense burner and the one on the left is a ball jar with a base.
i learned a lot....my favorite part was working with the glazes........

Figure Drawing summer class

I'm on day 3 of my figure drawing class instructed by the extra-ordinarily talented AJ Smith. i'll just say i'm in awe by the charisma and excitment that he teaches. he moves, he has a certain rhythym to his teaching, and he will use the "rhythym" analogy in the mastery of drawing. we have not yet looked upon a figure as of yet (she's coming monday). AJ believes we should start with the fundamentals, which coming from a basketball background, i whole-heartedly agree. all of my former coaches always preached about periodically getting back to the basics and fundamental basketball.....without them, success is merily a mirage. I'm starting to see things the way he wants us to....at least i think i am......i've been enlightened to this way of seeing so i guess i'm on the right track....to perceive how the "object occupies its space" as he puts it. the line must be assertive and gestural....which means the marks must be made quickly and with confidence. i like this new way of thinking....or "Not-thinking".....gaining access to the right side of your brain. your intuition takes over and the marks come much more easily and have been more "correct" than any previous drawing experiences.

Blair's birthday gift

This is a painting that I did for one of my best friends, Blair. her birthday was on may 20th, and i haven't given it to her yet so i'm hoping she won't see this posting until after the giving of gifts. she's got a couple cats herself, george and martha. i hope all 3 enjoy! i'm excited to see how she likes it.
